Roger Ayala Perez: Biography
The distinguished Cuban painter, Roger Ayala Perez, was born in Pinar del Río, Cuba, on September 16, 1950. He was part of the inaugural class at his native province's School of Plastic Arts, where he had the privilege of learning from renowned Cuban art masters such as Tiburcio Lorenzo and Aguedo Alonso.
After graduating in 1971, Ayala spent the mid-1970s developing an original style, focusing on oil paintings that spanned landscapes, portraits, and sculptures. While concurrently exploring a passion for music from 1980 onward, his painting career continued to evolve.
In 1999, he established himself in Havana, where his home studio in Centro Habana remains his base. That pivotal year, he was embraced by the Fondo de Bienes Culturales (Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets), marking a significant step in his professional recognition. This period also marked a thematic shift in his work towards social commentary. He began painting scenes of family life intertwined with elements of nature—interiors and exteriors featuring tables, books, children, butterflies, and birds—all carrying a profound message of love and peace.
His art gained significant recognition in Cuba and soon found its way into private collections across Latin America, North America, and Europe. Ayala affirms that his artistic objective is "to enrich the diverse cultures of Latin America.”
